There is a move in Haiti to find the best way to reconstruct the infrastructure and house the people. Within this effort comes the underlying challenge of high unemployment and the lack of economic opportunities.
A convention has gathered at the Hotel Karibe Convention Center in Haiti to address these issues.
HaitiLibre shared a quote from the meeting by the Minister of Trade and Industry: “..…we will establish a Centre of Enterprise Development and of the Entrepreneurship […] this will complete a project that will allow us to identify companies in the country. […] The State says it wants to create growth and jobs, but to create jobs, it must exist production, investments. To make investments, I need to know what sectors have the highest potential for employment, the best growth potential, in which activities. For example, everyone knows we need a house for living, eating, getting dressed, this means that there are sources of employment […] it is necessary to look into these areas, which ones produce the most jobs etc… in order to define the method of support of the State in these sectors.“ Wilson Laleau
We at CementTrust are convinced that business opportunities and good jobs await the Haitian economy as they work to build a functioning concrete supply system. Reconstruction and infrastructure development are the sectors that will produce the most jobs and provide the highest return on investment. Because quality concrete production is the foundation of sustainable construction, it should be the starting point. With early investment in the supplies they will produce strong houses, a sustainable infrastructure and thousands of good paying jobs for Haitians.
We continue to lobby for a Haitian-centered entrepreneurial solution that decentralize the supply system and puts opportunity in the hands of hundreds of local business people. We hope that the Centre of Enterprise Development and of the Entrepreneurship will find the support to move forward on the correct course – building a concrete construction supply system.
