Congressman Hastings Talks Reconstruction and Haitian Diaspora

In an effort to focus more attention on the reconstruction efforts of Haiti, Alcee Hastings is calling for a White House Conference.

Alcee Hastings on Haiti reconstruction conference
“I don’t see Haiti has being threatened by anybody to need an army. What they need is an army of reconstruction.”
The congressman is concerned that the money earmarked for Haiti is not being spent appropriately to help Haiti to rebuild. He feels that a conference directed by the President will help.

He continued..“I think you could get businessperson associated with Haitians, so that Haitians in the Diaspora could better assist in the redevelopment of the country. I believe those are the things that the White House could do”.

Getting business interests connected with the Diaspora, then connected to local Haitians is what we are suggesting as a plan for Haiti’s concrete supply chain. It would be great to get the President’s support, but we don’t wait for this possibility.

We know that the Diaspora living in developed nations around the world have seen the benefits of a functioning concrete system. They have also seen the evidence and felt the sadness as a result of poor concrete construction in their home country. They should take the lead in focusing attention on the results of bad concrete construction.

We believe that conferences are great for raising awareness, but action between business, Diaspora and Haitians will help build back better.

As businesspeople we are committed to assisting in this effort and continue to reach out to the Diaspora for partnerships.
