There are many well-meaning attempts to find suitable housing solutions for the Haitian people. The kindness of the international business community has helped to lift the quality of life for many.
One company from Germany has sent almost 1200 homes to Haiti as a part of this outreach. Their work is commendable, but the foundation seems a bit shaky…
We need to teach Haitian and international builders that a solid foundation and strong ties are needed in an earthquake zone. Having a nice home in Haiti is only as good as the foundation that it rests upon. If we set a home on a pile of poor concrete blocks, we have defeated our best efforts.
We encourage businesses to continue to offer their resources to help the homeless. CementTrust asks everyone to please build on a solid foundation of quality concrete.
Would you want to live in earthquake country resting on a few flimsy blocks?
